Brief History : The Department of Physiology was established in the year 1959 as one of the pillars of what was soon to become one of the most prestigious medical colleges in the country viz. Maulana Azad Medical College. The department is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Pathology block of college building. It has played a key role in the college being adjudged as the third best ranked medical college in India, as per the India Today poll conducted in 2014-15.
Academic staff : The most valuable resource of our department is the Academic staff, consisting of a highly versatile and dedicated team of faculty members, ably supported by the dynamic junior and senior residents along with senior research associates (from time to time) that imparts concept-based and clinically relevant knowledge to the students. Many members of the academic staff have been conferred with various prestigious awards and prizes for their outstanding work and performance.
Teaching :The academic staff teaches 250 students who are admitted to the 1st year of MBBS each year. The students are given lectures in well-equipped modern lecture theatres. The department has a seminar room, demonstration rooms, departmental library and dedicated laboratories to serve the teaching and research needs of both students and academic staff. The students are regularly evaluated by means of completion tests, students' seminars, weekly assessment tutorials, first term examination and sent up examination.
Our motto is : Lead. Care. Inspire. In short, these are the three major goals of teaching. We believe in learning by doing and encourage the students to develop their practical and clinical skills. We strive for excellence and reward the students by recommending their names for MAMC-APPI Silver Jubilee Endowment Award and Meghna Krishna Baveja Memorial Scholarship. Apart from undergraduate MBBS teaching, the department of Physiology is also entrusted with the task of conducting post-graduate (MD), BDS (Bachelor of Dental Sciences), BPO (Bachelor of Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences), BSLP (Bachelor of Speech, Audiology and Language Pathology), B.Sc Nursing classes. The department also guides PhD scholars.
