About Library

The College has a centrally air-conditioned library, with an impressive collection of books and journals. There are separate reading rooms for students where they can study up till late hours. The library is equipped with multiple computer stations with LAN and Internet connectivity. Online access to journals is available through the computers connected to internal LAN.

LIBRARY COLLECTION

The library collection comprises of books, journals, theses and e-journals. Books are arranged on shelves according to the Dewey Decimal Scheme of classification. Current journals and back volumes of journals are arranged on shelves in alphabetical order by title. Within each title, the journals are arranged in chronological order. The total collection of the library books/journals as on 31.03.2021 is as follows:

CENTRAL LIBRARY RULES

I. MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to Faculty, staff and students of Maulana Azad Medical College and its associated institutions.

* Paramedical staff includes Lab technicians, Pharmacists, Dietitians, Radiographers, Physiotherapist, etc.

1. No ex-faculty member or ex-student will be issued membership card without the approval of Library Advisory Committee.
2. Membership of persons working in MAMC & Associated Hospitals is restricted to the period they are on the payroll of MAM College & Associated Hospitals. They shall have to obtain a ‘Clearance Certificate’ from the Library before leaving the institution after surrendering library cards/ membership ID Card issued to them.
3. Other category of staff of the institution can use library material within the library only.
    

II. ISSUE & RETURN

Reading material will be issued and returned as per specified timings only. Duration of loan will be as follows:

•  

1.  One Borrower’s ticket is needed for any one item
2.  Renewal of items is permissible only when the item is brought back to the library physically, at the discretion of the issuing staff, based on “reservation” for the item from other members.
3. Books / Journals can be 'reserved' by filling out Reservation slip at the counter. He / she will be informed once the material is available, which has to be issued within 2 days, after which it will no longer be kept reserved.
4.  Members are advised to be vigilant regarding due date for returning books to avoid overdue fine.
5.  If necessary, the library can call back items issued to members at any time.
    

III. TIMINGS

1. Main library (issue and return): Weekdays - 9.00 am to 8.00 pm
2.  Reading Room: 24x7

IV. E-services

1.  Internet use and online journal access are available to all students, faculty and staff of MAMC.
2.  User will be allowed entry with valid Library card or College ID Card only
3.  All users are required to make LEGIBLE entry in the register kept for this purpose
4.  User is NOT ALLOWED to make any change in the setting of PC, adding any executable programs, deleting files, etc.
5.  User should not remove/ damage any hardware, wire etc. or interchange keyboard, mouse etc.
6.  Downloading of software other than required for academic purpose is not allowed

V. GENERAL RULES

1.  Entry to the library and / or reading room is allowed to persons carrying Library cards, or Identity Cards of MAMC or associated institutions
2.  The Library has an open access system with all the shelves properly labeled with subject citations.
3.  Reference reading material is to be taken from shelves by members themselves. Help of library staff can be requested for volumes which are out of reach. The reading material should be left on the reading table after use, for the library staff to stack properly.
4.  Personal books are not allowed within the main library. Notebooks and writing material are permitted. Bags are not allowed. Issued books/ journals cannot be taken back inside the library.
5.  Personal reading material are permitted in the designated reading rooms.
6.  The administration reserves the right to ask any user who is not complying with library rules and/ or not carrying the library card / MAMC Identity Card to leave the library or even cancel the membership.
    

VI. RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF MEMBERS

A library member can:

1.  Consult reference books within the library
2.  Use reading room to study (personal books allowed)
3.  Borrow one book/ journal/ thesis per card
4.  Use internet facility (for academic purpose)
5.  Permanent faculty members can get up to 4 books under the Faculty Scheme for long term issue

Duties of members

1.  Always carry your MAMC/ Library I Card when coming to the library
2.  Do not damage any material in the library
3.  Do not tear, fold or underline pages of books, journals or magazines
4.  Inform Library-In-charge if anyone is found involved in any suspicious activity in the library premises
5.  Maintain silence in the library premises
6.  Return documents on time
7.  Do not displace documents from its position on the shelves, if not required for consultation
8.  Be polite and gentle in your demeanor
9.  Borrowers have to observe the physical condition of the books/ journals before borrowing and return them inthe same condition. Any damage at the time of issue should be informed to the issuing staff, otherwise theywill be held responsible for any damage noticed at the time of returning
10.  Keep your library, including the lawns outside, clean. Drop all the litter in the litter bins provided inside thereading rooms and around the library lawns
     

VII. DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARIES

Every department can borrow few books for ready reference. Only those books, which have more than one copy, can be issued to the department against the signature of the departmental head. If there is one copy only, it will be kept in reference section of main library. A proper record will have to be kept by the department for these books and department will be responsible for them.

VIII. PENALTIES

Lost Borrower’s ticket: The loss has to be reported in writing to the library immediately. Duplicate ticket will be issued within six weeks of the report, after payment of Rs.100/- per ticket. The member will be responsible for any loss, which the library may suffer due to misuse of his/ her ticket. The liability of member shall continue till he/she surrenders his/ her cards or reports the loss of his/ her cards to the library. Library ticket of habitual defaulters can be detained for a period of 6 months and entry to library can be banned during this period.
