  • The Department of Forensic Medicine is located on the second floor of the main building complex of the college. Its mortuary, which comes under the ambit of the Lok Nayak Hospital, is located in the campus at a walk able distance from the Department. The department currently is comprised of seven faculty members and has six sanctioned posts of Senior Residents, 5 postgraduate seats, technical, academic and administrative staff. The primary duties of the department include teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students and medicolegal work. The department has 250 undergraduate students every year, who come to us for one and a half years, and during this period they are trained in all medicolegal matters which they are likely to face in their professional life.
  • The department plays a major role in providing emergency services in the form of conduction of autopsies or postmortem examinations and caters to the many districts of the national capital which fall under its jurisdiction. Other medicolegal services include clinical forensic medicine viz. age estimation, examination of assault victims and accused etc. The faculty are frequently nominated as members of various medical boards for such cases. The distinguished faculty of the department have been a part of many committees, State and National level, for framing of numerous policies in relation to medicolegal issues that has been adopted by institutions all around the country. The department also provides consultation to Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant and Gurunanak Eye Center.
  • Research forms an important part of the departmental academic activities and this department has contributed to the existing pool of knowledge of the subject at both national and international level. The PG students partake in research mainly through thesis work and also get involved in research projects along with faculty members. Their quality work is recognized at various national and international scientific fora. The faculty members have publications in peer reviewed scientific journals and some are editors of national and international journals. Popular undergraduate and postgraduate books have emerged from the esteemed faculty of this department.
