The Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care is one of the largest departments of the Institute with a faculty strength of 26 (15 Teachers and 11 Specialists), 58 Senior Residents and 50 Post-graduates. It is well supported by a team of technical staff. The department provides anaesthesia services for various surgical specialities of Lok Nayak Hospital, i.e. General Surgery, Orthopedics, Burns & Plastic Surgeries, ENT, Pediatric Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Neuro Surgery, Radiodiagnosis and Radiotherapy. It also provides anaesthesia services for GNEC(Eye Surgery), MAIDS(Dental surgery) and Sushruta Trauma Centre. Alongwith this, anaesthesia is being provided to patients at peripheral locations like MRI, CT and Radiotherapy suites. In total the department runs 29 OT tables. The Department has a dedicated 15 bedded ICU at LNH and 6 bedded ICU at STC with ventilatory and monitoring facilities. Pre-anaesthetic clinic runs Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. Pain clinic provides services for chronic pain (Monday - Friday from 2 pm to 4 pm). Acute pain services are provided as needed. Rususcitation services for the in-hospital patients are provided at different locations.
