Department profile :
The department of psychiatry was established in 1958, and since its inception has been providing evidence based treatment to patients of psychological issues and psychiatric illness, delivering training to doctors (MBBS, MD, nursing, PGDGM etc) who have earned a good name in this specialty both in India and abroad. Research being carried out in the department has own laurels from time to time and also stands duly published in national and internationally reputed journals not only in the field of psychiatry but also in other specialties. This department takes immense pride in providing psychiatric services to both general and super specialty hospital like GIPMER. It played a pivotal role in the care of mental health of COVID-19 patients of LNJP hospital in recent past. It caters consultation liaison psychiatry service to all departments of Maulana Azad Medical College and allied hospitals. It trains three MD (psychiatry) postgraduates each year.
